White Supremacy in Social Justice.

If you think about it, there is an underlying theme of white supremacy in a lot of this social justice, white shaming and white guilt nonsense.  Hear me out here.

Perhaps the best example of this is the double standard for behavior that these leftists have when it comes to whites and non-whites.  You’ll never hear one of these people attack a non-white for spouting any level of racism but as soon as a white person says something that’s remotely prideful or nationalistic we’re “literally Hitler.”  So what you’re saying there is that white people are held to a higher standard of behavior in your mind.  We also see this when it comes to acts of violence, crime, rioting etc.  They bend over backwards to defend the actions of non-whites no matter how disturbing or grisly they are but not white people.  They are essentially admitting that there are differences in our behaviors and that more is expected out of white people.

You won’t hear leftists condemning the Middle Eastern or African cultures and countries that execute homosexuals.  I’ve actually heard it uttered, “that’s just their culture.”  Like they can’t help it.  But you see white people should know better, right?  Because we’re.. .what?  Better than that?

*maniacal laughter*

I AGREE WITH THIS OBSERVATION REGARDING TUMBLR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HELL EVEN SOCIAL JUSTICE IN REAL LIFE AT TIMES and how it RESEMBLES and EQUALS WHITE SUPREMACY

so, how does it feel to have so much in common with SJWs???

One of the sides (at least the white cupcakes of SJW) is ”uwu mah white guilt and everyone else needs my protection Messiah complex powered by epic ignorance*, and your side is “uwu I have nothing in my life except my skin tone/nation/country/blahblah to deem myself of any worth and everyone else endangers my pathetic ego-wank cause I am a boring ass, empty individual that strives on self-indoctrinated fears and ignorance*

It’s called the horseshoe theory. Most people think of the traditional political spectrum like this:

image

A straight line in which the extremists are far far away from each other ideologically.

A more modern theory is that the political spectrum is bent like a horseshoe like this:

image

Which puts the extremists close together in the effects that they have or are trying to achieve.

I had my doubts about horseshoe theory before coming to tumblr. No doubts anymore at all. The extreme liberal SJW crowd, when you strip away some of the language, is really arguing for much the same as the extreme rightists. No racial mixing, no cultural blending, everyone in their own corner. Is that a neo-nazi thing or a sjw thing? Hard to tell some days.

Not just that but the idea of an inflexible ethos is the same on both sides. There is no pragmatic compromise, no one can make a simple mistake, no education possible, allies are suspect, it’s a ‘you’re with me or against me’ attitude. Something both ends of the spectrum share but the middle does not.

Most people fall in the middle ranges. It only seems like they don’t because tumblr attracts a crowd of elitist spoilt students who dogmatically cling to their ideals. They haven’t learned that compromise is needed to get along. Some never will. They’ll find work in their little enclaves and stay the same way throughout their lives. Think of Fox News. The left has such organizations too.

Basically over the course of a few months I went from totally disbelieving in the theory to embracing it almost wholeheartedly.

* sanctity of marriage * * not for gay people *

Listen collowrath, the number of Catholic popes that fucked around in history and gave no shits about any sanctity of anyone’s marriage should clue you in on the bullshit of ” only the man and woman holiest union is the equation of life” and other glitter-glue-fumes infused fairy tales

You’re not saving the ‘celestial race[ of whatever the fuck you believe in with fucking your husband in front of God until the end of your pathetic lives

You’re just married

That’s it

Your child is not the next Jesus, too not Jewish for that, you know

Wait, was collowrath informed Jesus was Jewish? Damn, did I spoil it for her?

Where was I, ah yes, and your psycho-babble new-age traditionalism slash read too much of David Icke and oh boy the communists are coming, doesn’t hold much water due to EPIC AMOUNT OF EVIDENCE THAT HOLINESS OF LOVE IS NOT CENTERED SOLELY AROUND A PENIS ENTERING A VAGINA WITH A BEFOREHAND PRIEST’S BLESSING JUST CAUSE YOU BELIEVE IT DOES

BECAUSE WHY AREN’T CATHOLIC PRIESTS AND NUNS THEN MARRYING IF IT’S SO HOLY AND MAKES GOD OH SO ECSTATIC? TEHE

hey, one could say that self-imposed celibacy among Catholic clergy that preach ‘go and procreate’ to da masses is not natural then…

unless you really have nothing in your life to convince yourself of that you’re SPESHAL in some way

you’re special alright, I’ll give you that…

hence, why you can’t even explain yourself without “uwu, LIZARD ALIENS FROM OUTER SPACE*

get some help, pronto

Teen Wolf S3 + “It’s okay.”

Fuck’s sake. The next time Teen Wolf murders a teenager, I want them to not say, “it’s okay.” I want them to die raging, angry, scared, panicking, in pain. Don’t give me Romeo, give me Mercutio. I want curses and blame laid upon the guilt-ridden survivors, I want the ugly bitterness of a child dying before their time. If you’re going to give them violent deaths, give them violent deaths. Stop throwing pretty words and soft petals over everything. You wanna be realistic, Teen Wolf? Let these children die as children.

THIS

People are ‘okay’ about the most fucked up things in Teen Wolf.

When your 16/17 years old, you shouldn’t say your death is okay. How many teens would say it’s okay? They’d be fucking terrified. And that would make sense. And it would be heartbreaking. Instead of making me go ‘really? You’re 16/17. How the fuck are you okay with dying?’

I just. Why bother killing them if you’re just going to have every single one cough a little and tell whoever is with them that it’s okay?

I actually find this pretty realistic. When I’ve been in situations in which I was genuinely powerless, the one empowering option I had was to make peace with myself. Internal power is the go-to place of the externally disempowered, in my admittedly limited one-person experience of such things.

That said, I’d prefer if we had some other reactions in the show. Sometimes it’s better to take the less realist path in a story, for the very reason that it is a construction, not reality. Fiction is a good way to explore the alternative path, and I would like to see the raging against fate option explored in Teen Wolf, along with the quiet internalisation of trauma.

idk ive never had anyone die in front of me but in high school whenever a friend of mine died i would sob and scream and rage & this one time even start singing, props to crystal reed for the scene when her mom died, thats what it always seems like to me

I have had someone die in front of me. At the time, someone very condescendingly told me that if I didn’t let out my grief, I’d have trauma and pay for it later in life. I remember thinking, “How do I grieve more than this?” And then I went and ate a cracker and a piece of cheese, and checked my make-up looked okay. Because if you look okay, you are okay (like I said, internalised empowerment by controlling what you can control). Another time while I was waiting for someone to die, I read Terry Pratchett in the hospital and snickered. “It’s okay,” I said to a nurse who gave me an odd look, “black humour.” They still looked at me like I was crazy, but what they couldn’t see was that my hands were trembling and I was sweating, and I couldn’t make it stop, so I was just ignoring it. And I was doing it so well no-one paid attention to the right thing. Because if you look okay, you are okay. Or in this case, I looked okay so I was an unfeeling asshole, but I was okay with people thinking that.

Context is really important in how people react. Rage is only possible if you feel safe. And grief only manifests as crying if you feel safe.

Needless to say, I did not feel safe.

So yeah, I find the reactions on Teen Wolf pretty realistic. It’s okay, because if they say it is, then they are. And that’s the only empowerment they have in that moment, so they take it.

Wow you are incredibly strong, I’m so sorry those people acted that way

Thank you. I take your sympathy as meant. But I’m not particularly strong — everyone who survives difficult situations finds ways to cope, and this was mine. I’m not special in that regard. And people just reacted to what they saw and understood. Most people don’t have more than a passing experience of things like trauma, so they trot out trite scripts to help them cope. That’s not a bad thing — I use scripts myself to get through difficult situations. The older I get the more extensive my experience, and the more nunaced and thought-out my responses are. But I still find myself saying the same old formulas in the face of people’s hard times: I’m so sorry that happened to you; and sometimes, are you okay?

Scripts are only bad when there is a mis-match between the situation and the intent of the script. In the West we tend to have a pretty big hole in terms of well-known and acceptable scripts for helping us deal with death and mental illnesses, so people cobble together bits of other scripts — get well soon, and so on. And that can cause pain to the people on the receiving end, which is a whole other issue.

Another reason for saying “I’m okay” is so you don’t have to deal with well-meaning but clueless people who will try to trot out an inappropriate script to make you feel better (ie. make themselves feel better for having done something useful).

I absolutely agree with cupidsbower here. The OP’s point is a gripe I’ve seen in TW fandom often and while I absolutely agree and would love to see someone rage and flail and cry, “I’m fuckin’ dying here, I’m fuckin’ dying!” ala Mr. Orange, I do appreciate the portrayal of the characters’ quiet fear and internalised empowerment. That’s personally how I deal with grief and scary situations. One of the worst was a terrible flight experience - won’t go into detail, but it got bad and it was sudden, so people weren’t wearing seatbelts and were thrown about like rag dolls. I absolutely thought I was going to die, but while everyone was screaming around me, I sat still and thought “Well shit, the last film I got to watch was 102 Dalmations?” And then afterwards I focused on taking care of the passengers around me and cracking jokes. Humour for me is a big coping mechanism, it’s how I find empowerment in scary situations. If I can crack a joke, even if only to myself, I feel like I have some kind of upper hand. After the accident, there were many months of terrible nightmares and panic attacks, but at the time, like Cupid said, I found empowerment in controlling what I could control in a situation that was completely out of my hands. So I found Allison’s death scene to be very realistic and most importantly I found it believable for her character. Her story is all about her desire to be strong, first for herself and then her realisation that she wants to be strong for other people. When she died, she wanted to be brave for both herself and for Scott, because that’s who she is - that’s her coping mechanism. And goddamn do I ever love her for it.
